Cataract Eye Surgery
By Dennis Tavies

During cataract eye surgery, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with a plastic one. One method involves using ultrasound to break up the cataract. This is called Phacoemulsification. A small incision is made in the eye and the cataract is removed by suction. An intraocular lens is then implanted. This lens becomes a permanent part of the eye which cant be seen or felt.

Another method of removing the clouded lens is called Extracapsular surgery. A longer incision is made on the side of the cornea and the core of the cloudy lens is removed in one piece. The rest of the lens is removed by suction. Discuss the benefits and risks of each of these procedures with your doctor.

Since glasses constantly get dirty and scratched, theres no vanity involved in appreciating a clear line of vision. Glasses can break when you play with your grandchildren and are easily misplaced. The freedom that comes with taking the glasses off for good is priceless.

Being able to wear sunglasses for the first time is another
